Regular season records: Howard 22-12; Kansas 27-7

what you need to know

Howard Bison and the #4 Kansas Jayhawks are scheduled to face off at 2:00 pm ET on March 16 at the Wells Fargo Arena in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Bison should still be at their best after the win, while Kansas will look to get back into the win column.

Howard had another postseason success last Saturday. They got off with a one-free throw victory over the Norfolk State Spartans, 65–64. Howard guard Jelani Williams filled out the stats with 20 points and six rebounds. Williams didn’t help his team much last Friday against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks, so it was a good turn for him. Williams’ points were the most for the entire season.

Meanwhile, Kansas must be suffering from a crushing 76-56 loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns last Saturday. It was supposed to be a close match and Kansas was supposed to emerge victorious, but none of that happened. Guard Grady Dick was of little value to the Jayhawks; Dick played 30 minutes but scored only six points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Two stats to keep an eye on: The Bison allowed their opponents to average 8.7 steals per game, 360th in college basketball. To make matters worse for Howard, Kansas enters the game with the 19th-highest steals per game in college basketball, at 8.8. In other words, Howard will have to work very hard to take care of the ball.

New York Mets fans held their breath when Edwin Diaz injured his knee during Puerto Rico’s celebration at the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday.

Immediately after winning a place in the WBC semi-finals, the team celebrated by the hill.

However, Diaz went under, and the celebration suddenly became summer.

Diaz was taken to the unclean area and placed in a wheelchair, where he was wheeled into the clubhouse.

His brother Alexis, who is also on the team, cried on the pitch.

If Diaz has a serious injury, then the damage it does to the Mets is insurmountable.

Diaz was the best player in baseball last year, posting historic numbers. Last season, he posted a 1.31 ERA, by far the lowest of his career, hitting 17.1 batters in nine innings.

He finished ninth in the NL Cy Young Award voting.

Diaz became a dominant player with the Seattle Mariners and was traded to the Mets ahead of the 2019 season, but his first season was forgotten. His ERA was 5.59, he lost his job and seemed to be refusing a long pass all the time. But he had quite a twist.

He’s been back to normal since the start of the 2020 season with a 2.27 ERA and 257 batters in 150.1 innings.

The Mets re-signed Diaz to a five-year, $102 million contract during the off-season, the largest ever deal for a reliever.

His strike music for “Narco” by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet has also become something of a cult hit, and there is now debate as to whether it’s better than Mariano Rivera’s “Enter Sandman”.

The Amazon Mets won 101 games last year but fell short of the division title to the Atlanta Braves and were eliminated from the postseason in the wild card round to the San Diego Padres.

Diaz’s Mets teammate Francisco Lindor is the starting shortstop for the Puerto Rican team.
